Frabill's Pro-Thermal sets a new performance standard in tip-ups. Unique round shape and patented features deliver superior performance to help you catch more fish. Round hole, round tip-up! The pro Thermal's round shap and insulating design covers the entire hole to prevent freeze-up, even at 25 below. Keeps blowing snow and slush from entering the hole and blocks out unnatural light that spook shallow water trophies. Spool shaft is pre-lubed with a special "Sub-Zero" lubricant for liquid smooth operation regardless of the temperature. Unique folding spool shaft folds directly into the tip-up base for compact storage. The Pro-Thermal's round shape and flat design allow them to stack inside a 5-6 gallon pail for convenient storage and transport. The Pro-Thermal is loaded with high performance features you won't fin on traditional style tip-ups.

Field Testing the Frabill Pro Thermal Tip-Up

I field tested the Frabill Pro Thermal Tip-up for 3 days and about a total of 17 hours. We caught a some nice fish. The first day was slow for. About 10 hits all together. The second day got better. A couple more hits. The third day was the day when we caught the most fish. it was maybe a -20 windchill and 20 mph wind burst's. We fished all day. We caught some bass, and pike. There were to many hits on the Frabill's to count. The regular wood tip-ups got a few hits, but the fish would get away beacuse the hole would freeze over and the reel would be stuck. The Frabill's didn't have that problem because they are round a insulated. The ice holes were about 8" and the Frabill tip-up is 10", so it cover the hole well. Also the flags are plastic so the wind would'nt blow them, making it look like a hit. Some of the nicer fish caught were a 33" Northern Pike, a 4 lb Bass, and a few 3-4lb Bass. There were also alot of smaller fish also. These were small pike and a few bass. This shows that the Frabill is able to detect small bits too. Another thing I liked was that the Frabill Thermal tip-ups are able to stack into a bucket. We were able to put 7 in a bucket and then put a swivel seat lid on the bucket. Also the reel is plastic, not metal. This makes it so that your hands don't get as cold when you take your gloves off to feel the fish. Another cool thing is that the Frabill thermal tip-up has a tackle box inside of it. It isn't a very big tackle box but big enough to put some hooks and weights in it so you can replace any lost hooks or weights right there. The thing that also helped is that the thermal tip-up blocks any light from going in the hole. The lake we were on had very clear water and the sun was out. So the fish didn't see the us or the light like they would on a regular tip-up. I really like these tip-ups. They reel won't freeze in the hole, making it unable to spin. They are easy to transport, easy to set up, and easy to fish with. They run at about $19.00, and I say they are worth all of it. You will catch more fish, or we did, atleast. Below are some pictures of the fish caught on the Frabill Pro-Thermal Tip-Up.

Favorite Feature:
My favorite feature is the round design. It keeps the ice hole from freezing over, and it makes storing the tip ups much easier. All you have to do is stack them in a 10 gallon bucket!

Another product made by Frabill is the XL Speed Shak. The XL Speed Shak is a portable ice house. It has room for 4 holes, 2 on each side. It's perfect for two people. It is light weight, about 110lbs. and and folds up into a 72"L x 32"W x 9"H hard plastic rectangle. When it is set-up it's 72"L x 72"w x 84"H. It's got alot of head room. The reason I added this to the review is beacuse I have one, and I really like it.
